{"id":1568,"date":"2019-01-10T08:08:50","date_gmt":"2019-01-10T08:08:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.grace-child.com\/en\/?p=1568"},"modified":"2022-07-23T04:45:38","modified_gmt":"2022-07-23T04:45:38","slug":"hkchilddevelopment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.grace-child.com\/en\/hkchilddevelopment\/","title":{"rendered":"What are the building blocks necessary to develop preschool readiness?"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li><strong>Self regulation:<\/strong> The ability to obtain, maintain and change emotion, behaviour, attention and activity level appropriate for a task or situation.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sensory processing:<\/strong> Accurate processing of sensory stimulation in the environment as well as in one\u2019s own body which effects attention, behaviour and learning.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Receptive language (understanding):<\/strong> Comprehension of spoken language (vocabulary, instructions, questions, concepts) for group instructions as well as peer interaction.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Expressive language (using language):<\/strong> Formulating sentences that have age appropriate grammar (e.g. using pronouns \u2018he\/she\u2019 correctly) and word order, using specific vocabulary, and telling a simple story.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Articulation:<\/strong> The ability to clearly pronounce individual sounds in words and sentences.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Executive Functioning:<\/strong> Higher order reasoning and thinking skills (e.g. working out how to make the desired building, collecting the materials and overcoming challenges in the process).<\/li>\n<li><strong>Emotional development\/regulation:<\/strong> The ability to perceive emotion, integrate emotion to facilitate thought, understand emotions and regulate emotions. It also means responding\u00a0 age appropriately to a frustration and managing to \u2018contain\u2019 tantrums or recovering quickly from an upset.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Social skills:<\/strong> Determined by the ability to engage in reciprocal interaction with others (either verbally or non-verbally), to compromise with others and to be able to recognise and follow social norms.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Planning and sequencing<\/strong>: The sequential multi-step task\/activity performance to achieve a well-defined result.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Self regulation: The ability to obtain, maintain and change emotion, behaviour, attention and activity level appropriate for a task or situation.
